So, this might come as a bit of a surprise. Well, honestly, I’m sure this is a huge surprise. Yes, Crimson Ring is a brand-new novel and yes you can start reading it right now. Just head over to www.otgoldman.com/crimson-ring.
Crimson Ring is a full-length novel featuring Raven of the Bloody Murder. One final contract and Raven will sheathe his knives for the last time. His target? A radical mage known as the Crimson Ring who threatens the collapse of desert city of Bhadestan.
Now, I’m sure you have some questions, so I will attempt to pre-empt as many of them as I can now.
For starters, my Paths of Sai’ja series is still on track for the scheduled release cycle I outlined back in the beginning of the year. This web novel has not cut into the publishing time in any way. And the reason for that is pretty simple–I already had this book written but had no idea how to publish it. You see, publishing costs are very high. I am incredibly proud of this story and was trying to figure out how to get it into the hands of readers. I thought this format would be a pretty cool experiment.
The next thing I think is important (and pretty cool) to mention is the fact that Crimson Ring is set in the same world as the Paths of Sai’ja series. Those of you who read my novella The Silent Raven would actually know that. This story takes place concurrently with the events of book one of the Paths of Sai’ja series, A Path of Vengeance. If you enjoy my existing work, I think you’ll get a kick out of taking a peek over in the Sovereign Cities.
So, what exactly is a web novel and how does it work?
A web novel is a novel that is presented in a very untraditional format. Instead of reading the full book all at once, sections are released in episodic-style format, most commonly by chapter. Crimson Ring will follow this structure. I will release a new chapter at least every Friday. That means there will be weeks where I upload more, but you can expect at least one new chapter by 8pm. Just go to www.otgoldman.com/crimson-ring and click on the latest chapter button.
The natural question I would have for the format is why not release the full book all at once? Well, the answer to that question goes back to the whole publishing costs question. I had already written this book. The next step in the publication process would be to send it off to my editor. Editing gives the book that layer of polish readers come to expect in a published novel, whether it’s released by a big publishing house or an independent author like me. Releasing the novel in episodic format allows me to aggressively edit and polish each chapter before uploading it. One day, if my books go from passion projects to money making assets that can pay for the process, I’ll be able to cover the publication costs of every project I write. Until then, this might be a good alternative.
Can I really read the entire book for free without paying a single cent?
Yes, you most certainly can. I have links to where you can support Crimson Ring, but there is absolutely no requirement to pay any amount of money to continue through to the end of the story. If you show up every Friday, you will have access to a new chapter. Period.
I hope this provides some clarity to this new project. Feel free to reach out to me either here on my website or on twitter if you have any questions I haven’t already covered. I hope you enjoy Crimson Ring. It is without a doubt my strongest work. Get started reading right now!
